Fragment of the novel "Palms and Ombues"
ARCO ORLO.
The bus was quickly down the highway linking Montevideo to Tacuarembó department. We were in the summer and the heat and the smell of sweat were sweltering. Passengers dozed or bored watching the landscape that passed on both sides of the road. I also watched the picture to my left, lined by green pastures and wool sheeps and cows. Occasionally the monotony was broken by a yellowish ceibo under which the cows took shelter from the burning sun.
Iñaqui Echevarria slept beside me with loud snoring. We agreed not to sleep during the trip so that your snoring cursed not disturb the other passengers. When I came back to Uruguay after a eventful holiday in Cuba, I met at the airport with a drama that was their sociopolitical overtones and human.
I approached the front row to hear the dialogue. A woman of about forty, still beautiful and well dressed, was in the area to check in with hundreds of passengers and had formed a chorus around her. She was of low lengnt, stylish hairstyle and makeup complexion well but had a stunning voice almost shotting_ officials dressed in blue guarding the air terminal.
Mrs. started with a conciliatory tone and all listened to, most of the passengers were Cubans expecting different flights especially Spain and Uruguay.The issue was that the husband had got ill of waiting the flight and his blood pressure had risen to dangerous levels and airport authorities taken him to an area where the wife could not access.
___ I have to see my husband. See him with my own eyes.
__ Mrs. It is not allowed to enter the room where it is. It's restricted area. Do you have the blood pressure medication, if so not easy for a moment?
__ Well I do not I'll give medicine until I see my husband.
__ But understand. You can not pass
.__ How I can not go? Is this a military fortress ?. Do me the check in the passport and bags and let me go if you do not want to be arme a scandal in front of everyone.
__ It can not. They are orders that come from above. Inviolate.
Mrs. raised his voice and stood firm. And they surrounded a group of civil servants and policemen from the airport
.__ Give me the medicine, please your husband is wrong

Fragment of the novel "Palms and Ombues"
ARCO ORLO.
The bus was quickly down the highway linking Montevideo to Tacuarembó department. We were in the summer and the heat and the smell of sweat were sweltering. Passengers dozed or bored watching the landscape that passed on both sides of the road. I also watched the picture to my left, lined by green pastures and wool sheeps and cows. Occasionally the monotony was broken by a yellowish ceibo under which the cows took shelter from the burning sun.
Iñaqui Echevarria slept beside me with loud snoring. We agreed not to sleep during the trip so that your snoring cursed not disturb the other passengers. When I came back to Uruguay after a eventful holiday in Cuba, I met at the airport with a drama that was their sociopolitical overtones and human.
I approached the front row to hear the dialogue. A woman of about forty, still beautiful and well dressed, was in the area to check in with hundreds of passengers and had formed a chorus around her. She was of low lengnt, stylish hairstyle and makeup complexion well but had a stunning voice almost shotting_ officials dressed in blue guarding the air terminal.
Mrs. started with a conciliatory tone and all listened to, most of the passengers were Cubans expecting different flights especially Spain and Uruguay.The issue was that the husband had got ill of waiting the flight and his blood pressure had risen to dangerous levels and airport authorities taken him to an area where the wife could not access.
___ I have to see my husband. See him with my own eyes.
__ Mrs. It is not allowed to enter the room where it is. It's restricted area. Do you have the blood pressure medication, if so not easy for a moment?
__ Well I do not I'll give medicine until I see my husband.
__ But understand. You can not pass
.__ How I can not go? Is this a military fortress ?. Do me the check in the passport and bags and let me go if you do not want to be arme a scandal in front of everyone.
__ It can not. They are orders that come from above. Inviolate.
Mrs. raised his voice and stood firm. And they surrounded a group of civil servants and policemen from the airport

Cuando yo era un joven médico en la provincia de Guantánamo. Me enviaron a San Antonio del Sur, municipio colindante con el mar Caribe.
Cuando una chalana repleta de haitianos encallaba en los arrecifes me enviaban con una asistente experta en Epidemiología.
No me permitían tocarlos solo examinarlos a ojo de buen cubero.
Allí había como 50 haitianos que iban ruta a Miami. Bajamos el acantilado y los obligaban a desnudarse- hombres, mujeres y niños -y un fumigador los rociaba de una leche blanca- Difterez- desde la cabeza a los pies. Los pintaban de blanco.
Las autoridades del PCC les lanzaban ramilletes de plátano desde lo alto como si fueran infectados o fueran a comernos vivos.
Después nos obligaban a recoger todo indicio de su presencia: latas, ropa raída y todo rastro de ellos. Así era la solidaridad comunista.
Luego venia un barco cubano mayor y los remolcaba hasta alta mar para que prosiguieran su camino. Y nos obligaban a guardar el secreto.

El cumple de Orlando Vicente Álvarez.
Hoy cumplo 61 años bien llevados- parezco de 76- pero la vida me ha sonreído. A los 50 me dieron dos crisis hipertensiva- medicamentos y dieta sin sal. Dos años después me atacó un pre infarto- más medicamentos. Varios meses más tarde me dieron dos infartos del miocardio.
En el segundo me hicieron una angioplastia- cateterismo por la arteria coronaria izquierda, me deshicieron el coágulo y me descubrieron una placa de ateroma en el inicio de la arteria aorta-me dejaron un sten. Más medicamentos y dieta sin nada de sal.
Al año me detectaron una Diabetes Mellitus- más pastillas y me consiguieron trabajo suave en un convento de monjas. Las cosas que vi y olí no tienen nombre pero soy discreto, muy discreto. Me enamoré de la madre superiora que tenía los ojos azules más bellos que había visto. Pero el pellejo le colgaba por todas partes a sus 80 años y le temía al uso del viagra- ahora se le receta diariamente a los que han sufrido un infarto por eso sus mañanas son más placenteras.
Al poco tiempo caí en coma diabético y mi familia pensaba que esta vez la pifiaba. El coma duró 27 días en que no vi luces ni figuras fantasmales: la nada. Mi hermano me hablaba- yo inconsciente de las aventuras de su hijo en Miami y ese fue el primer signo de recuperación: el oído- pues soñaba con parientes, amigos y colegas que habían emigrado hacía tiempo.
Por fin Salí del coma poco a poco y me pasaron de terapia intensiva a la sala. Pero yo seguía delirando aunque mi hija estaba a mi lado.
Me dieron el alta con más medicamentos y tres inyecciones de insulina al día y más medicamentos. La nutricionista me dijo que hiciera arroz con todo el patillaje adjunto y una pizca de comino.
Ahora estoy esperando una gangrena de la pierna izquierda y le dije a mi cirujano favorito que usara un hacha estéril para ZAZ, cercenarla sobre la rodilla. Total, yo con una sola pierna puedo andar.
Espero llegar a los 92 años donde me espera el Alzheimer el mismo que ataca ahora, prematuramente, al periodista A cuando escribe y reescribe sus comentarios que nadie entiende
